“I Don’t Know When I’m Going To See My Parents Again”

When one of our favourite Dolly writers, Jo Elvin, packed up her life and headed to London 27 years ago, she never imagined that it would be the last time she would live in the same country as her parents. Jo thought she would spend a couple of years working in London before returning home.

However, after she landed a job as editor of Sugar (Dolly’s UK equivalent), she quickly became entrenched in the UK magazine industry. She went on to edit B, New Woman and Glamour, before taking on her current role as editor of You magazine a couple of years ago. Along the way, she met her husband Ross, had daughter Evie (now a teenager) and London became home.

Jo has been living on the other side of the world from her parents, who are now in their 70s, for most of her life, and says that even though she has always been “just a 24-hour plane trip away”, the guilt of living so far away from her parents is becoming more pronounced as the years roll by.
