Tonic’s First 50 Women

Sometimes we have to pinch ourselves to remember that Tonic was launched in June. In this short time, we have been honoured and humbled by the response from women who have supported us by sharing their stories, by reading those tales and by joining the conversation on social media.

On a lazy Sunday, I decided to make a list of the first 50 women whose stories we had featured on Tonic. I like a list and I am big on balance and diversity, so I wanted to ensure that we are highlighting a broad base of women who are contributing to society in their own way.

Our list includes an historian, an inclusivity campaigner and an ethical butcher. These women come from a range of culturally-diverse backgrounds, but we can always do more to highlight the stories of women from minority groups, stories that may otherwise not be told. I am confident that we are on our way to achieving our goal of broadening the narrative of what a woman in her mid-life – arguably, at the prime of her life – is like.

The women we have featured have, at least, a few things in common: they are passionate, positive and in control of the direction their lives are taking. They are also decision-making consumers who vote. And that is a pretty strong narrative. I can’t wait to see the list of the next 50 women we feature.

We have so many incredible stories coming up in the new year to inspire and reassure us that we are not alone as we seek to rewrite the rules of ageing.

We are Generation Visible, and there is still so much more that we want to achieve.
